We’re Ski Bums
Through and Through

Michigan Ski Bum is a small, family business that, from day one, has been rooted in our personal commitment of sustainability, community and giving back.

  • 90-95% of the ski is used on the chair.

  • All bindings go to the scrap yard to melt down the plastic and metal components.

  • Our power for our shop (and home) is supplemented by 31 solar panels.

  • We use local vendors and suppliers whenever possible.

  • Our shipping bags for MI Ski Bum apparel are 100% Compostable.

  • A portion of the proceeds from every Ski Bum product sold benefits a Michigan Ski Patrol Unit to support education and safety on our hills. For details about how your favorite ski patrol can benefit, check out our FAQ’s on our Contact page.

Simone, Chief Ski Bum

I grew up in Germany where my dad taught me how to ski not long after I learned how to walk. During our family ski trips across the border to Austria or Switzerland, I skied wherever he skied, closely in his tracks down any mountain. We moved to Michigan when I started High School, and one of my first jobs was at Cannonsburg with the Mighty Mites program, and as a ski instructor. Our spare time was spent up north, skiing at Nubs Nob and the Highlands whenever possible. Skiing has also become our go-to family sport with my own family - during the winter, you’ll frequently find us at Cabby, Crystal, Schuss, Boyne, Nubs and The Highlands.

Not long after I learned how to ski, I started working with my dad and grandpa in their wood shop, and grew up helping with everything from small crafts to home projects and renovations.

Both of these passions led me to launch Michigan Ski Bum, starting with our ski chairs and ultimately building a brand that celebrates skiing in Michigan.

See you on the Slopes!

Michigan winters are more fun when they’re spent on a ski hill with family and friends.
